JELENA BEHREND STUDIO - A PLACE NOT TO BE MISSED WHEN IN NEW YORK CITY

according to legendary Simon Watson, independent curator, critic and art advisor based in New York City and São Paulo. This is what he wrote about the studio for the XOP magazine - a newly launched premiere luxury magazine for Brazilians who love to shop in NYC and Miami:

"Born and raised in Serbia, Jelena Behrend hammers metal into elegant works of wearable art, having learned her craft from old-world artisans. Behrend’s influences range from ancient Greece to downtown New York City, from dim candlelit churches to even dimmer punk-rock clubs. Hipsters, artists, and art collectors worldwide (including the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards) wouldn’t think of going out without donning a piece of her finery—and sometimes more than one. “I never wear fewer than four pieces at a time,” says Lia Gangitano, director of the downtown alternative art space Participant Inc. “I love all my Jelena Behrend jewelry—mostly rings and necklaces—but I guess it’s the choker I bought from her in 2009 that has become my signature.”
Jelena Behrend Studio, 158 Ludlow St., 4th Fl., NYC, 212-995-8497, jelenabehrendstudio.com. By appointment only."
